Private Lessons

Vocal and Music Instruction

From beginners to the advanced singers, the social singers to the professionals, every student’s lesson will be tailored in order to obtain their goals. We will work together to find the most direct path to vocal, musical and personal growth. Each student leaves their lesson with a recording of that day’s lesson for daily practice in the form of an MP3 sent  via email or text, this ensures a consistent practice and a commitment to their goal. In addition, students can expect to get recordings of instrumental tracks of their songs to work with at home. Microphone use for live performance as well as for recording will be a regular part of the education.

Lessons are not limited to only vocal study, anyone interested in exploring techniques of Songwriting or wanting to strengthen their writing and add some Music Theory to the mix are encouraged to incorporate those aspects into their lesson.

Private Vocal Technique

Vocal study is about understanding the fundamental ideas of how to use the instrument and then putting into daily practice the technical exercises to have your own voice.   We will establish vocal warmups and vocal growth and add proper breath technique.  We will work on the principals of live performance and what must be in place before grabbing a microphone and getting on stage.

Music Theory

A focus on  music theory provides students with a working knowledge of scales, key signatures, rhythms, intervals, chord construction, and solfege. Musicianship skills such as dictation, sight singing, and other listening skills are also encompassed in this course. The ultimate goal of the music theory study is to develop a students ability to recognize, understand, and describe the fundamental components of music as well as to communicate well with other musicians.

Song Writing

This study is dedicated to the basic principles and ideas for songwriting.  We will review music theory knowledge as well as lyric writing and pull together various philosophies of songwriting as well as writing without rules at all.  Learn the rules, break the rules and write what comes naturally.  Working together I will guide and help shape your song but in the end it will be your composition.

Sight Singing
& Ear Training

The focus of this study is  basic ear training skills through sigh singing and dictation exercises. Through the study of songs, the singer will come to have a better understanding of intervals and rhythmic patterns. Singing bass lines, melodic sequences, triads and seventh chords.  This will help to sharpen the singers ear and will allow him or her to rely on skills to navigate through any piece of music.  Combining this study with theory is really the best coupling of lessons.
